Introduction:
Lying on the lap of Mt. Machhapuchhre, our hometown
Pokhara shines with glory and beauty, not just in the
country but in the whole world. It is one of the major
tourist destinations in Nepal. It is situated at 827m
above sea level and 200 km to the West of Kathmandu
valley.
Pokhara is the land of Magars and Gurungs, brave
warriors who have earned worldwide fame as Gurkha
soldiers. The Thakalis, another important ethnic group,
are known for their entrepreneurship.
The majestic view of Annapurna range and the tail of Mt.
Machhapuchhre lure everyone here. The amazing and quite
puzzling Tal Barahi Temple in the middle of Fewa Lake is
another eye-catcher. The green hills that surround
Pokhara from all sides make you feel lost in the real
beauty of nature, they make you feel closer to nature.
Several great Nepali poets, singers, artists are from
Pokhara. Thus, one can without a doubt say that Pokhara
is the source of talent and beauty of Nepal.
Nepal has been through years of internal conflicts.
Because of an unstable political situation and the
diversity in governmental policies that were focusing
less on the socio-economic development, the number of
poor and extremely affected children has increased
dramatically. The care for children in general, orphans
and street children more specifically, has lagged
behind. For orphans and street children, there are
physical and developmental effects and unfortunately
this group is still increasing every day. The critical
conditions of these children are encouraging them to
anti-social behaviour and make them more vulnerable to
HIV and AIDS if this situation doesn’t improve.
Tahara Nepal is a non-governmental, non-profit
developmental organization (NGO) committed to improve
the quality of children’s lives by ensuring that their
rights and dignity are recognized and respected. Tahara
Nepal believes that all people should be treated equally
and feels the obligation to help the disadvantaged
children. Tahara Nepal is registered in the District
Administration Office in Kaski (Reg. No. 1659/063) and
affiliated with the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu
(Affn.No. 19934) dated 2063 Jestha 22.
Objectives of Tahara Nepal:
- To provide scholarship to other needy children in the
remote villages of Nepal.
- To provide love, care, support, food, housing and
adequate medical care to the orphan children so they can
live a good life that contributes to their nation in the
future.
- To provide vocational training and skill development
training to those orphans who are too old to go to
school.
- To conduct medical/dental campaigns and relief
programs in remote villages.
- To conduct awareness programs in the society about
street children, child labour, HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and
crime.
- To stand up for the rights of street children, orphans
and poor children
